But as for me and my house ...
Blocked legislation ... again. In 2008, the International Criminal Court (ICC) indicted the Sudan President Omar al Bashir on 10 counts of murder, genocide, and crimes against humanity for killing 35,000 inhabitants of Western Darfur. Considering the 2.5 million the Muslim, Bashir is 'credited' with murdering during his 20 years of rule, this is but a small number. Al Bashir is subject to arrest and trial if any nation is courageous enough to turn him in.
Now, U. S. President Barack Obama has decided to oppose Republican legislation that would deny American aid to any nation that hosts a visit from legendary murderer. Introduced by Congressman Frank Wolf of Virginia, this Amendment to the 2013 Foreign Operations Appropriations bill passed the House in May. Its purpose is to “…send a clear message to the international community that Bashir, the world’s most notorious perpetrator of genocide deserves to be treated as a pariah.” That “clear message” would prevent offending nations from collecting billions in non-humanitarian foreign aid from the United States. Why would the President block this legislation? Why are we still sending billions of dollars to countries that hate us and kill our people? Obviously, Congress wants to do something about it but the President does not!
